Vicki Harkey named President of the anti-human trafficking coalition following retirement of President and founder Carrie Wood
Plymouth, Michigan – Pearls of Great Price Founder and President Carrie Wood announced her retirement as its President,
and confirmed the role has been filled by Vicki Harkey, a board member and volunteer leader in the organization.
Wood, a retired Pastor, has led the organization since she created it in 2012. Since then, it has grown into one of the area’s recognized leaders in the public education and fight against human trafficking throughout the region. “It has been a an incredible and rewarding journey” she commented. “I am proud beyond words when I think back on the many accomplishments, we have enjoyed that have helped make the public more aware of, to help lead the fight against, and to provide tangible support for those who have experienced and survived this horrible human tragedy. We have been blessed, and offer thanks for the support and involvement of MANY people and organizations who have played a vital role in our success. After so many years at the helm however, I feel it time to step back and hand the reins to one of our capable and proven volunteers. I have every confidence that Vicki will continue the fight, and will serve as an effective leader.”
While retiring from the role of the organization’s Presidency, Wood will still remain as an active part of the organization, including serving as a member its board. “We have made some great strides toward our mission, but all of us still have LOTS to do!”
Harkey assumes the organization’s Presidency after serving as a member since 2017 – having joined following the organization’s first Human Trafficking Symposium. Later that year, she organized the Men’s educational and fundraising event, Courageous Outrage, then co-chaired the Fashion for Freedom Fundraisers in 2018 and 2019. She was invited to be a member of the board in 2019. Although most comfortable in behind the scenes roles, Vicki was honored to accept Wood’s invitation to transition to the role of President and to lead in Pearl’s efforts to affirm and restore the value of all those affected by human trafficking.
Harkey and husband Chris have been married for 30 years, and have 3 grown daughters. She is regularly involved in other church ministries as well as participating in mission trips to Guatemala.
